Debate About Vaccuum Cleaners Today

There is a debate raging in the world of vacuum cleaners today; to bag or to go bag less.  A bagged vacuum cleaner requires that you replace the bag when full.  This is sometimes difficult to tell, and some consumers don't replace the bag often.  Then there are some vacuum cleaner owners that feel that changing the vacuum cleaner bag out is such a chore and let the bag fill with dirt causing the vacuums suction ability to diminish.  The supporters of the bag less vacuum believe that the dirt cup is an innovative way to keep your vacuum working efficiently.  You can visually see when the dirt cup needs emptying and if emptied regularly the vacuum remains efficient.    The visual effect of a full dirt cup is enough to drive even the least interested user to empty the bag.

In reality when you take personal opinions aside, vacuum cleaner bags are not expensive and are easily replaced.  Regular replacing of the bags keeps your vacuum working efficiently.  Some vacuum cleaner models have an alerting light that lets the user know when you need a replacement vacuum cleaner bag.  The full vacuum cleaner bag is easily slipped off and a new bag put in its place.  With bag less vacuum cleaners you don't have to worry about checking the bag since you can see the dirt in full view.  Some vacuums have a dirt cup with a fill line that, once the dirt reaches this line, it's time to empty the cup.  There are bag less vacuums that have filters that require maintenance.  The filters need to be cleaned or the suction of the vacuum is diminished.  Emptying the dirt cup can be a challenge, creating a huge dusty mess.  If emptying vacuum cleaner bags seems too much of a chore consider installing a central vacuuming system.

Central vacuuming systems are vacuum systems built into homes.  The home owner does not have to pull the vacuum cleaner all through the house but instead docks the lightweight hose at the vacuums outlets mounted in the wall.  The vacuum system is quieter and efficiently removes dust and debris cleanly.  A central vacuum system also adds value to your home when you decide to sell.  Central vacuum systems are not only installed in new home construction but can also be used in older homes.  You definitely do not need a replacement vacuum bag for this system.

If you decide to purchase a vacuum cleaner that needs bags there are many different retailers of vacuum bags.  You can purchase vacuum bags from almost any grocery, drug or hardware store.  You can also shop online from online stores that sell only vacuum bags.  You will find from Kirby vacuum bags to Miele vacuum bags in different quantities.  Some manufacturer of vacuum bags manufacturer generic bags that can fit a number of different brands of vacuum cleaners.  If you have a Eureka vacuum machine you will not need a specific more expensive Eureka vacuum bag but instead an affordable generic bag.  This allows the vacuum cleaner bags to be affordable inadvertently encouraging vacuum owners to stock up on bags and change them out more often.

The choice to Bag or not is very much a personal one.  For all the advances in the "bag less" world there is new technology in the bagged vacuum cleaner world.  I suspect that vacuum cleaner bags will be around and in use for a long time.

Kirby Vacuum Cleaners – Maintaining Peak Performance

A well maintained Kirby vacuum cleaner will generally last 2 to 3 times longer than most vacuums. It's not unusual for my customers to bring in Kirby vacuums for service that are over 20 years old. Kirby vacuum cleaners are made to last, but you do need to maintain your Kirby vacuum regardless of model to maintain optimum cleaning performance.

Change the Kirby vacuum cleaner belt every year. Don't wait for it to break. Kirby vacuum belts will stretch with use over time, causing a decrease in the rate of agitation that occurs during the cleaning process. Your brush roller should spin as much as possible to effectively remove sand, dust and debris from your carpet. Kirby only makes one size vacuum belt, so it's very easy to find at an online vacuum store.

Change the brush roller every 2 to 3 years. One of the most neglected parts on the Kirby or most vacuum cleaners for that matter is the brush roller, or sometimes refered to as the vacuum agitator. The brushes on the roller wear over time. This cause a degradation in cleaning performance. Kirby vacuum rollers can cost as cost as much as 40 to 50 dollars, which is a drop in the bucket when you consider the cost of the vacuum cleaner itself.

Use the best vacuum bags possible. Kirby has introduced a HEPA filtration bag with allergen reduction filters. It is certified to meet certain filtration standards and maintainer higher airflow throught the life of the vacuum bag. It feels like cloth. This vacuum bag was introduced for the Kirby Sentria series, but fits all of the Generation and Ultimate G / Diamond Series vacuum cleaners. It will even fit older Kirby vacuums that utilize a Style 3 bag. This bag will reduced the amount of allergens and dust that can become redistributed into your household as you vacuum. I highly recommend using this type of vacuum bag for your Kirby, as filtration for some models is limited at best. If you have pets or allergies, it's a "must have".

You should also keep the inside of the outer vacuum cleaner bag clean on your Kirby. I recommend using a canister vacuum cleaner to vacuum the inside of the Kirby exterior vacuum bag out. This applies to all Kirby vacuums, regardless of age or model.

Don't vacuum up any hard objects. Your big, heavy Kirby vacuum cleaner probably has a plastic fan. The debris from your carpet passes through this area on the way up to the vacuum bag. The fan can break. Simply put, bend down to pick up anything that looks like you shouldn't be vacuuming it.

Follow these tips and your Kirby vacuum cleaner will perform at peak levels for years. Kirby vacuums are one of the more expensive residential vacuum cleaners available, and it makes sense to maximize your investment by insuring the vacuum performs as well as it possibly can.

Frank Buckley has a vacuum parts store. They sell Kirby vacuum parts and supplies including Kirby vacuum bags, replacement belts and brush rollers for all current and older Kirby vacuum models.
