This is a short video on the Kirby Sentria Vacuum cleaner I recently purchased. It was a snowy day here so I had nothing better to do.

Yet another vintage item I picked out of the trash... This is a Kirby Classic III. It was a terrible mess and smelled like a sewer. There was liquid in the waste bin, and I don't want to know what it was! I nearly threw up a couple times while cleaning this one, but it turned out beautifully and runs great now. I think it was made between 1976 and 1979.

History

The first Kirby vacuums were designed by Jim Kirby for George Scott and Carl Fetzer after World War I, although the Kirby name was not used on a vacuum cleaner until the 1930s.

In 1970, input from Kirby distributors, dealers, management and customers guided Kirby engineers in developing the Kirby Classic. The model was an instant success, with soaring sales, forcing the company to expand its manufacturing facilities outside of Cleveland for the first time. In 1972, Kirby West began operations in Andrews, Texas. The facility doubled the company manufacturing capabilities.[citation needed]

Warranty

The Kirby warranty varies depending on the model sold, but always has the lifetime factory rebuild plan. The warranty on the current model, the Sentria, is a three-year factory warranty excluding wear and tear. After the initial warranty expires, the rebuild plan is activated that is good for the lifetime of the original purchaser, in which the owner can have the Sentria completely restored to its original condition for a price determined by the United States Consumer Price Index (currently $175), plus shipping cost. In addition, if during this time the Kirby is damaged in a fire, the Kirby company will replace the vacuum with the current model for the same fee. In both of these instances, a new 1-year warranty comes into effect.

Sales practices

Sales procedures vary with each dealer. They include canvassing, door-to-door, and by-appointment.

An initial price is offered to the customer. The Kirby is presented as a long term investment or a home care system, superior to other vacuums. Either a manager is brought in to the demonstration, or the salesperson may call their manager to offer higher discounts until the customer is able to pay by cash or use a payment plan (usually schemed or set-up/arranged phone calls). The price a Kirby is initially offered at may be up to 3000 in the UK and the majority of Kirby's are sold on credit with interest rates of 18% to 25%
"Purchasing Plans" offered are actually loans that can improve or degrade your credit rating, depending if repayments are made.

Kirby products online

Kirby vacuum cleaners, new and used, can be found on eBay for prices ranging from $200 to $1900 for recent models. However, such sales are unauthorized by Kirby and do not carry any warranty. Some units originate from distributors that have left the business and are selling their remaining units at wholesale prices, and people selling reconditioned units.

There are so many vacuum cleaners to choose from in today’s consumer pleasing retail embracing society, how does a consumer possibly decide on which vacuum is the best vacuum for them?

Most consumers have heard of the Hoover vacuum.  Hoover is one of the leading manufacturers of household products. These products include cleaners and the Hoover vacuum is probably the most well known of these cleaning products. In America people say they are going to ‘vacuum’ their carpet, however in Europe it is known that people say they are going to ‘Hoover’ their carpet.

Over the decades, Hoover has updated its very first model, which was the Constellation. This Hoover model in vacuum cleaner reviews is said to have a changing HEPA filtration bag and a 12 amp motor. In addition, other vacuum cleaner reviews state the completely redesigned Hoover has a new handle due to the fact the old one used to break quite easily. The new handle however, makes up for anything in the past and is extremely controllable and lightweight.

Hoover marketed the Constellation model in the United States, called the exact same vacuum with same features and same specifications the Satellite in Europe, and marketed it under that name.

In 1973, Hoover designed and introduced another model called the Celebrity.
Another brand of vacuum cleaner that vacuum cleaner ratings say is possibly one of the best vacuums is the Kirby Vacuum. Headquartered in Cleveland Ohio, the Kirby Company began making the Kirby vacuum cleaners shortly after World War I.

Kirby products have always been sold by door-to-door salesman. All Kirby products have been sold door to door, including the Kirby vacuum cleaner. Vacuum cleaner ratings have always put Kirby vacuums at or near the top. There are rarely consumer complaints in regards to functionality and quality of the Kirby. However, there are complaints from employees of the company however, that does not affect the quality of the Kirby vacuum cleaner or other Kirby products.

Rainbow vacuum cleaners have also been rated very well by vacuum cleaner rating sites. The vacuum is known for its cleaning system utilizing water. The Rainbow vacuum rates very well in categories and with consumers dealing with allergies and higher than usual allergen ratios in their home.  The Rainbow vacuum also is the best vacuum for consumers suffering from asthma. Since the Rainbow vacuum utilizes water, the dust is washed from the air that is released back into the atmosphere while vacuuming.

The Bissell vacuum has been released in many different models with many different features. The Bissell as invented by Melville Bissell. Mr. Bissell invented the Bissell upright vacuum when he decided he could no longer hear his wife complain about not being able to clean the carpets effectively.  

When researching which vacuum will be the best vacuum for your household, it is also important to take into consideration what type of warranty the vacuum company will give their consumers.
